25+ years of barbering experience. 8 years performing SMP. One treatment philosophy: create natural-looking results that don't announce the procedure.
"The best SMP is the kind nobody notices. They just think you look good."
Every case begins with understanding your hair-loss pattern, your goals, and what will actually look natural for you.
For men with substantial or complete hair loss who want the appearance of a closely shaved head with defined hairline and density.
For those with enough existing hair to use SMP to reduce visible scalp contrast and create the appearance of greater density.
For FUE/FUT patients who still have visible thinning, insufficient density, or want to improve the visual result of their transplant.
Reduce the visual contrast created by transplant scarring. Technique depends on how you wear your hair.
Assessment for SMP that is too dark, poorly designed, migrated, faded, or no longer appropriate because natural hair loss progressed.
Every decision in the treatment room is filtered through one question:
"Will this make the SMP more detectable?"
If the answer is yes, the approach changes. This is the core of how Moses evaluates every case.
A hairline should make someone appear refreshed and younger without looking artificially youthful or out of place.
Start conservatively, allow pigment to heal and settle, then build intentionally with information from the healing response.
Size, spacing, placement, color and pattern must work together to mimic natural follicles rather than decorative dots.
Today's density treatment must consider what could happen if natural hair continues thinning in the years ahead.
The eye should have difficulty identifying where SMP begins or ends. The transition should be imperceptible.
Determining the correct pathway is one of the most important SMP decisions. Not everyone is suited for both approaches.
Natural hair stands above the scalp and creates a three-dimensional visual boundary. SMP impressions remain two-dimensional pigment in the skin. Density SMP works by visually supporting existing hair—not by pretending 2D pigment is long hair.
For those who have spent significant money on FUE/FUT but still experience visible concerns, SMP can address what surgery alone may not fully resolve.
For density treatments, SMP should generally stay behind and underneath the existing frontal hairline—supporting, not competing with, your transplant.
Important: SMP does not regrow hair. It creates the visual appearance of density by reducing scalp contrast.
Had a Hair Transplant? Start HereSuccessful FUT scar camouflage depends partly on matching the visual appearance of surrounding hair at the length you normally wear it.
"How do you normally wear the back and sides of your hair?"
Someone may be a good density candidate today but lose considerably more natural hair later. Density SMP can often use darker pigment because it is partially concealed by existing hair. If the person later decides to shave completely, previously hidden density pigment may be too dark for an exposed buzzed look. Some cases may require previous pigment to be lightened or removed before transitioning to a different SMP approach.

Guidance on what visual information moves the conversation forward
When AI assessment is sufficient and when an in-person consultation is necessary
AI Moses provides education and preliminary guidance based on established SMP principles. Final candidacy, treatment planning, pricing, and medical concerns may require evaluation by a qualified practitioner.
Every session provides information. Healing reveals what the scalp actually holds.
Pigment intensity increases through observation, not assumption.
Never design as if pigment replaces actual hair volume.
Head shape, facial proportions, age, and lifestyle all inform the design.
Start conservatively and establish the visual base. Under-promise in pigment density; the healing period will reveal what the scalp accepts.
Allow pigment to settle and evaluate how the scalp responds. This information guides every subsequent decision.
Build color and density based on the healed result. Now we have real data about this specific scalp.
Observe again. Some areas may need more support; others may be complete.
Use increasingly selective impressions to fine-tune remaining areas. The lightest touch for the most natural result.
The goal isn't to force a finished result during Session 1. Healing provides information.
Educational before-and-after documentation. Each case includes the patient's concern, treatment strategy, and why that approach was selected.
Advanced recession, NW4 pattern. Chose buzzed SMP with soft, age-appropriate hairline.
Buzzed Look · 3 SessionsCrown and mid-scalp thinning with preserved hairline. Density SMP behind existing hair.
Density · 3 Sessions2,400 grafts with visible thinning behind hairline. Density SMP to complete visual result.
Transplant · 3 SessionsAll patient images are shown with explicit written consent. Identifying features may be obscured at patient request. New cases added as documentation is completed.
More than 25 years of barbering gave Moses years of experience observing natural hairlines, head shapes, facial proportions, fades, density, follicle patterns, hair texture, and how hair length changes visual appearance.

Meet MosesScalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that deposits pigment into the scalp to create the appearance of hair follicles. It can simulate a closely shaved head, add density behind thinning hair, or reduce the visibility of scars. When performed with restraint and skill, the result should look natural—not like a tattoo or obvious cosmetic work.
Good SMP should be difficult to detect. The goal is not the darkest pigment, lowest hairline, or sharpest edge—it is naturalness. Factors that determine realism include hairline design, pigment selection, impression size and spacing, and how well the treatment accounts for your head shape, skin tone, and existing hair. This is why Moses evaluates every decision through the question: "Will this make the SMP more detectable?"
Most cases require three sessions. Session 1 establishes a conservative foundation. After healing, Session 2 builds informed density and color. Session 3 refines any remaining areas. Rushing to complete everything in one session often produces less natural results. Healing provides essential information about how your scalp accepts pigment.
Most clients describe the sensation as mild to moderate discomfort—similar to a light scratching or vibration. Sensitivity varies by scalp zone. The temples and crown tend to be more sensitive than the top of the head. Sessions are paced to manage comfort, and breaks are taken as needed.
SMP typically lasts 3-5 years before requiring a refresh. Factors affecting longevity include sun exposure, skin type, immune response, and aftercare. Lighter, more natural pigment choices may fade slightly faster but also look more realistic. Touch-up sessions are available to maintain the desired appearance.
Yes, through density SMP. This approach works by depositing pigment between and behind existing hairs to reduce scalp contrast. It does not regrow hair or stop hair loss. The suitability of density SMP depends on how much natural hair remains, the pattern of thinning, and whether future hair loss could expose the pigment in ways that look unnatural.
No. Whether you should shave depends on your hair-loss pattern and goals. Density SMP is designed for those who want to keep existing hair. Buzzed-look SMP is for those who prefer or need to shave. The right pathway is determined during consultation based on your specific situation—not a one-size-fits-all recommendation.
Yes. Many transplant patients find that while grafts survived, the overall visual density is still insufficient. SMP can reduce visible scalp behind the transplant, improve crown appearance, and address FUT or FUE scarring. For density treatments, SMP generally stays behind and underneath the existing frontal hairline to support rather than compete with the transplant.
Yes, though success depends on how you wear your hair. FUT scar camouflage works by matching the visual appearance of surrounding hair at your normal length. If you later change your hair length substantially, the surrounding natural hair changes visually while the SMP remains 2D pigment—potentially making the scar noticeable again. This is discussed thoroughly in consultation.
Yes. FUE scarring consists of small dot scars distributed across the donor area. These can often be reduced in visibility through targeted pigment application. The approach depends on scar size, density, surrounding hair characteristics, and how short you wear your hair.
Yes. Women with diffuse thinning or visible scalp can benefit from density SMP. The approach is adjusted for female hair-loss patterns, which typically differ from male pattern baldness. Longer hair can work with density SMP when the pigment placement supports the existing hair structure.
This is why future-hair-loss planning matters. Someone may be a good density candidate today but lose more hair later. If previously hidden density pigment becomes exposed, it may appear too dark for a buzzed look. Some cases require lightening or removal before transitioning approaches. Moses discusses this risk and planning strategy during consultation.
Sometimes. Correction depends on the existing pigment's depth, color, saturation, and placement. Options include targeted camouflage, fading through laser or saline, or working around existing work. A thorough assessment determines whether correction is viable and what approach makes sense.
Pigment is selected based on your skin tone, existing hair color (if any), and the intended result. For buzzed looks, the pigment typically matches the appearance of hair at a very short length. For density SMP, the pigment must harmonize with visible hair. Moses starts conservatively and adjusts based on healing response.
Photos can obscure important details: scalp color variation, scar texture, existing hair density in different lighting, head shape nuances, and how hair lays naturally. Some decisions—particularly around density candidacy, scar assessment, and correction cases—require direct observation. AI Moses can guide you to whether an in-person consultation is the appropriate next step.
Pricing depends on the treatment area, complexity, number of sessions, and whether correction work is needed. A personalized quote is provided after assessment. SMP by Moses is positioned as a premium service reflecting 25+ years of hair experience and specialized SMP expertise. Financing options may be available.
